JAKARTA – During the “Indonesia 2045 Vision: The Future is Now – Collaborative Action to Achieve the Indonesia 2045 Vision” joint initiation event, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas voiced its appreciation towards academics who suggested recommendations on how the vision can be achieved in the future.
Participating academics included those from the University of Indonesia (UI) and Padjadjaran University (Unpad). As the drafter of the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), the Ministry is ensuring that the effective implementation of future development targets and goals will help directly contribute to achieving the Indonesia 2045 Vision.
“Indonesia in 2045 will be a strong, independent, modern, and continuously growing maritime country, which grows on the strength and abundance of its natural, social, cultural, and economic wealth,” explained the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa at the Bappenas building on Thursday (9/2).
The 2025-2045 RPJPN carries the vision of Indonesia as a ‘sovereign, advanced, and sustainable maritime country”. The definition of maritime involves the resilience of Indonesia’s geopolitical, geoeconomic, civilizational, and defense and security as an archipelagic nation. Meanwhile, sovereign in this sense includes the ideas of being resilient, united, independent, secure, and fair, while advanced encapsulates the traits of being empowered, modern, influential, tough, innovative, superior, future-oriented, and fair. Finally, sustainable in this sense is defined through socio-economic and ecological resilience, prosperity, equality, inclusivity, and transparency.
In order to fulfill its aspiration as an advanced nation by 2045, Indonesia must prioritize optimizing demographic dividends, ensure social welfare, create more middle-class jobs, carry out downstreaming activities to increase added value, and encourage equitable development. As a guideline for realizing these strategies, the 2025-2045 RPJPN will act as a reference for national development planning carried out by ministries/agencies, regional governments, and various development stakeholders.
Arranged on a phase-by-phase basis, the 2025-2045 RPJPN will be implemented through several targets in a certain period. From 2022 until the present, Indonesia is aiming to become a middle-to-upper income country following the economic downturns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. By 2030, Indonesia is expected to be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). By 2040, Indonesia is expected to be able to escape the middle-income trap, and finally by 2045, Indonesia is expected to realize all the visions outlined in the Indonesia 2045 Vision.
Within the last 12 years, the number of countries who have published their own medium to long term development plans have increased, with 80% of the world’s population living in countries that have outlined their development plans for at least the medium term. The role of the 2025-2045 RPJPN as a long-term planning document opens the opportunity for Indonesia to become one of the world’s role models in terms of development planning.
“We are optimistic that by 2045, Indonesia will become one of the champions of the world,” Minister Suharso concluded.
