Bappenas Meets Industry Representatives in Morowali and Konawe to Help Form Industrial Estate Masterplan

MOROWALI and KONAWE – The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas conducted a working visit to the Morowali Industrial Area in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, and the Virtue Dragon Nickel Industrial Park (VDNIP) in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, to gather input from industry players for the preparation of the Regional Industrial Master Plan.

The Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa emphasized that the master plan will reorganize the spatial layout so that industrial development can be carried out optimally, becoming a prime factor in improving regional welfare.

“I am here to see and want to hear what we can do, if we want to compile a Regional Industrial master plan. Where should we start?” Minister Suharso said during the visit, which was carried out under the orders of President Joko Widodo on Wednesday (1/2).

In Morowali, Minister Suharso visited the area around PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) to monitor the social and environmental conditions around the industrial area, including the Bahodopi Community Health Center and SDN 1 Bahomakmur. The master plan will focus on the fulfillment of basic faciliries and infrastructure for the sake of Morowali’s development, which will be the responsibility of all parties.

“We are together, there are obligations for the state, regional government obligations, as well as industrial obligations,” Minister Suharso said.

It is ensured that the preparation of the master plan takes into account the environment, in order to realize the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable industries in Morowali and Konawe.

“Other areas are busy talking about industrial waste which threatens the environment. Don’t let the existence of an industrial area here threaten the environment and cause irreversible damage. Because of that, we also need to see how well the environment is managed as well,” Minister Suharso said.

During a visit to the VDNIP Industrial Estate, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas’ Deputy of Facilities and Infrastructure Ervan Maksum said that the industry and the surrounding environment must operate together in harmony to ensure the development of industrial areas are able to benefit its surrounding areas.

“So, with an industry that is already very massive, with massive investment, we want to make sure that not only the industry but also the environment and spatial planning can be developed as well. Therefore, during our visit, we want to see, ensure, and note what is needed regarding our planning,” Deputy Evan said.
