JAKARTA - The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Korea Industry Intelligence Association (KOIIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Acceleration of Indonesia's Economic Transformation through Innovation-Based Partnerships on Tuesday (23/1).
The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas’ Chief Secretary Teni Widuriyanti emphasized Indonesia's commitment to advancing research and innovation as a key driver of economic growth and national transformation.
"Indonesia is currently focusing on the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), with the target of achieving the world's fifth-largest GDP. One of the key sectors for our economic transformation is the manufacturing sector, where the role of the manufacturing industry is crucial," explained Secretary Teni.
The KOIIA is an association under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of the Republic of Korea, established in August 2015, with around 400 member companies. KOIIA runs various projects to promote digital transformation across various industrial sectors. KOIIA Vice Chair Kim Tae Hwan explained that KOIIA will play a role in supporting the increased value of Indonesian industrial products through the optimization of digital technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and AI, as without technological innovation, the industrial sector is not competitive and lacks high added value.
Secretary Teni conveyed that this collaboration is generally aimed at accelerating Indonesia's economic transformation agenda, especially in three aspects. First, strengthening innovative economic development programs. Second, promoting research and innovation as the basis for economic activities. Third, implementing joint activities related to technology transfer and expertise.
The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas’ Deputy for Economic Affairs Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti added that this collaboration specifically aims to promote the development of the blue and manufacturing economic sectors through cooperation in developing research and innovation ecosystems and commercializing research and innovation results in the industry.
In the 2025-2045 RPJPN, Indonesia is targeting its manufacturing sector to contribute 28% to the national GDP. It is also targeting the development of its Blue Economy sector, utilizing maritime resources, which will help increase the contribution to the national GDP from 7.92% in 2022, to 15% in 2045.
The partnership is expected to help accelerate national economic development and transformation in line with the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.
