Bappenas Emphasizes Private-Public Sector Cooperation as Key to Accelerate Economic Growth and Job Creation

During the "Afternoon Tea Kompas Collaboration Forum" event on Thursday (4/7), the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa emphasized the importance of collaboration between the private sector and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in accelerating economic growth and job creation in Indonesia. Minister Suharso highlighted the trend of slowing economic growth in Indonesia over the last two decades, which has only been around 5 percent. He stressed that to achieve higher and sustainable economic growth, more productive and innovative investments are needed.

"Collaboration between the private sector and BUMN is key to increasing investment and productivity in various economic sectors. BUMN has advantages in terms of capital and business networks, while the private sector can offer creativity and innovation. Synergy between the two will create new opportunities and drive inclusive economic growth," explained Minister Suharso.

Minister Suharso also highlighted several priority sectors that have the potential to be collaborated between the private sector and BUMN, including infrastructure, energy and energy transition, health, and logistics. Collaboration in these sectors is expected to improve connectivity between regions, create new jobs, enhance economic competitiveness, and improve the quality of life for the community. However, it must be acknowledged that collaboration between the private sector and BUMN still faces several challenges, such as differences in priorities in business processes, differences in capabilities and resources, as well as issues related to regulations and licensing. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of effective strategies to support the success of the collaboration, including strengthening the role of banking, changing paradigms between institutions, comprehensive studies, as well as transparency and accountability.

The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas has prepared a Private and BUMN Investment Plan that supports national development priorities in the Government Work Plan (RKP) 2025. This plan is expected to be the foundation for more strategic and directed collaboration between the private sector and BUMN. "We are optimistic that with strong collaboration between the private sector and BUMN, we can achieve higher economic growth, create broader job opportunities, and realize the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," concluded Minister Suharso.
