Indonesia & the UK Sign Agreement on Development Cooperation

JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, represented by the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK Minister for Women and Equalities, Anneliese Dodds, concerning bilateral development cooperation.

“This agreement serves as a formal foundation to continue the existing collaboration while also identifying new opportunities in strategic areas, in line with Indonesia's development priorities and global development agendas such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this MoU, the planning and implementation of Indonesia-UK development cooperation are expected to become more effective, accountable, and synergized with the achievement of Indonesia's national development targets,” said Minister Suharso on Tuesday (17/9).

Minister Suharso and Minister Anneliese also discussed potential collaboration in sectors that support Indonesia's future development targets, as outlined in the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan, the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan, and the 2030 SDGs. The priority sectors within this MoU include poverty alleviation, sustainable economic development, gender equality and social inclusion, clean and renewable energy, industry, innovation, and environmentally friendly infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, climate change and the environment, green financing, health, digital development, disaster response, and nexus approach programs within the SDG framework. The MoU also mandates the establishment of a Joint Committee to strengthen collaboration in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Indonesia-UK development policies and programs.

Minister Dodds expressed that maintaining diplomatic relations with Indonesia is a crucial agenda for the UK, in response to Indonesia's leadership in international cooperation and its pioneering role in addressing global issues such as green growth, blended finance, and climate resilience comprehensively and inclusively. “Growth is at the heart of our agenda, as it is with yours. Although we are separated by distance, our countries are united by the values we share and a common vision for progress. Today marks another milestone in our relationship as we sign this agreement to enhance cooperation in development,” said Minister Dodds.
