SDGs Annual Conference to Focus on Education, Employment, and Green Industry

JAKARTA – In line with the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas’ commitment to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2024 Indonesia SDGs Annual Conference (SAC) will be held again on 7-8 October, 2024.

Running under the theme of "Innovation towards a Golden Indonesia: The Interconnection of Quality Education, Employment, and Green Industry," SAC 2024 aims to strengthen public participation and cross-sectoral support to accelerate Indonesia's SDGs achievement. "The theme and focus of this conference reflect our commitment to strengthen inter-sectoral cooperation and enhance public awareness and active participation in achieving the SDGs. Through this initiative, we are committed to continuing the journey towards inclusive, sustainable, and equitable development for all," said the Head of the SDGs National Secretariat of Indonesia, Pungkas Bahjuri Ali.

The 7th SAC aims to gather stakeholders involved in Indonesia's SDGs achievement and disseminate the progress of SDGs to ensure inclusive and accountable development. SAC 2024 is expected to lead Indonesia toward sustainable progress through various festivals, conferences, and exhibitions, such as the SDGs Festival: Fun Bike & Fun Run, SDGs for Women and Children, and the seminar on SDGs Funding Implementation on 6 October 2024.

The main event of SAC 2024 will be opened by President Joko Widodo, with a keynote speech on the progress of Indonesia’s SDG achievement by the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa, and a speech by Defense Minister and President-Elect Prabowo Subianto on "SDGs and Indonesia's Future”.

Entering its third year, the Indonesia's SDGs Action Awards will once again be presented by President Joko Widodo on 7 October 2024, recognizing winners in seven categories to encourage broader replication of best practices and accelerate SDGs targets during the Decade of Action. This will be followed by a public lecture, talk show, and parallel discussions on 8 October 2024.

As part of its global commitment, Indonesia has integrated the SDGs into its development plans and contributed to achieving global goals. Efforts to achieve inclusive growth and provide decent work are part of a broader global movement. Education and innovation are key pillars in realizing sustainability and social justice for all levels of society.

"Amid global concerns that only 15% of the SDGs targets have been achieved, Indonesia stands as a beacon of hope. With a 62% achievement of 224 indicators, Indonesia is leading among upper-middle-income countries. Indonesia’s commitment, the highest in Asia for SDGs implementation, makes us a model for sustainable development," added Pungkas.
