Bappenas Conducts Environmental Study for 2025-2045 RPJPN Implementation

JAKARTA – The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas has begun preparing a Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) as part of the initial process for preparing the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN).

A KLHS involves the collection of input on sustainable development strategies for the next 20 years.

“The preparation of the KLHS must be carried out in the process of preparing the 2025-2045 RPJPN, in accordance with Law no.32/2009 on Environmental Protection and Management, specifically Article 15, and Law no.46/2016 on Procedures for Conducting Strategic Environmental Assessments, specifically Article 2(a). These focuses are to ensure the principles of sustainable development are properly integrated both at the regional and national scale,” said the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas’ Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources Vivi Yulaswati during the ‘2025-2045 RPJPN KLHS: Screening Sustainable Development Issues’ event at the Bappenas office in Jakarta on Thursday (26/1).

The preparation of the KLHS is being carried out in an inclusive, participatory, and transparent manner involving various parties including ministries/agencies, the private sector, academics, and non-governmental organizations. The meetings discussed climate change, strategies to deal with pollution and environmental damage, and mitigation of potential biodiversity losses, all of which are known as the ‘triple planetary crises’. “The Triple Planetary Crises are a combination of three crises that make Indonesia one of the most vulnerable countries, and also threatens to weaken our efforts to achieve our development targets in the future,” Vivi said.

As an important part of the 2025-2045 RPJPN preparations, the KLHS aims to ensure that national development planning is carried out in line with the principles of sustainable development, while at the same time being able to achieve the Indonesia 2045 Vision. “Let us ensure that the carrying capacity of our environment can be used as a reference for achieving our development targets and continue to ensure sustainable development in the future,” Vivi added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry’s Deputy for Economic Affairs and Chairperson of the 2025-2045 RPJPN Preparation Committee Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti emphasized that Indonesia needs to carry out a transformation so that the Indonesia 2045 Vision’s targets can be achieved optimally. These targets include economic transformation, social transformation, and governance transformation to encourage equitable development.

“In determining the future of Indonesia, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas will use the foresight method, meaning that it is not a projection we’re using, but something that we are able to shape ourselves without relying on predictions. Let’s work hand in hand to realize what we want in the future,” concluded Amalia.
