Bappenas Will Outline SDG Achievements at 2023 SDG Annual Conference

JAKARTA – To discuss Indonesia's progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, through the SDGs Indonesia Secretariat, will soon hold the 2023 SDGs Annual Conference: "Water, Energy, and Agriculture Towards Sustainable Food Security" on November 5-7, 2023, in Yogyakarta.

"The meeting will involve all stakeholders, including the private sector, philanthropy, universities, and others, to collectively contribute to creating a better world through the achievement of SDGs," stated Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa at the Bappenas Building on Tuesday (24/10).

The UN SDGs 2023 Summit in New York, USA, in September 2023 stated that globally, only 15 percent of SDGs targets are on track of being achieved. The 2023 Asia-Pacific SDG Progress Report outlined that the progress of SDGs achievement in the Asia-Pacific region reached only 14.4 percent in 2022, thus requiring another 42 years or until 2065 to achieve SDGs targets. "We reaffirm Indonesia's commitment to SDGs and Agenda 2030 to achieve the global targets," expressed Minister Suharso.

Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia's SDGs achievements have significantly increased. According to the 2023 Sustainable Development Report, Indonesia ranked 75th globally, up from 102nd in 2019. This aligns with Indonesia's SDGs index score, which continues to rise from 64.2 in 2019 to 70.2 in 2023. The 2023 Achievement Report of SDGs Implementation also indicates that about 60 percent of the indicators have achieved their targets. With an additional 16 percent of indicators showing improvement, approximately 76 percent of the indicators have been achieved and are progressing toward even better results.

The commitment to implementing SDGs is strengthened through various regulations, such as Presidential Regulation No. 111/2022 on SDGs Achievement Implementation, which mandates the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas to form a National Implementation Team, National Working Groups, Expert Teams, and a National Secretariat for SDGs Implementation in 2020-2024. "We continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the Cabinet Secretary, the Presidential Chief of Staff, and experts to implement SDGs," concluded Minister Suharso, who serves as the Coordinator of SDGs Implementation in Indonesia.
