Bappenas & BNPT Discuss Collaboration on Counterterrorism Measures

The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, in collaboration with the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), held a strategic meeting on Thursday (5/12) to strengthen synergy in combating terrorism. This meeting marks the beginning of an intensive partnership set to continue over the next five years. The Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, commended BNPT’s efforts as the frontline agency in counter-terrorism initiatives in Indonesia. He emphasized that national security stability is a vital prerequisite for inclusive economic growth and community well-being, making counter-terrorism a national development priority.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to ensuring national security, which serves as a critical foundation for achieving public welfare and inclusive economic growth,” Minister Rachmat stated.

BNPT Head Commissioner General Eddy Hartono, highlighted the significance of cross-sectoral coordination and international collaboration in addressing global threats, including the issue of Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) involving Indonesian nationals abroad.

Discussions covered various strategic measures, including national preparedness, community empowerment, capacity building for security personnel, and mapping of areas vulnerable to radicalism. Counter-radicalization strategies, such as counter-narratives, counter-propaganda, and counter-ideology initiatives, were also prioritized to combat the spread of radical ideologies. Deradicalization programs will adopt a comprehensive approach targeting prisoners, former convicts, and individuals or groups vulnerable to radical influences.

Bappenas also supports the establishment of a National Counter-Terrorism Preparedness Center, slated to commence operations in 2025. This center aims to enhance public readiness and resilience against terrorism threats. “We believe that with strong synergy among ministries, agencies, communities, and international partners, we can collectively create a safer, more peaceful, and prosperous Indonesia,” Minister Rachmat concluded.
